You’re on the last helicopter out, after all of the prisoners and most of your teammates have been pulled from the extraction point. It’s kind of relaxing, being the last one out, because it means you have the chopper nearly to yourself - and you take advantage of it, stretching out across the entire bank of seats at an angle that definitely doesn’t meet manufacturer’s specs for the safety harness.

You still have your earpiece in, so you activate the comms and say, “Man, that was the most boring mission ever.

Coulson answers, and you can tell from his voice that he wants to laugh, even if his response is just a calm, “Successful is not quite the same as boring, Agent Barton.”

“This one was both,” you complain. It wasn’t really, except that fighting Hydra gets seriously monotonous after a while, but you just want to see if you can rile him up a little.

There’s the click of a channel changing in your ear, and then Coulson’s voice is a little louder. He’s not riled. What he says is, “You did well, Barton. Take credit and shut up,” and that’s maybe even better.
